1. Differentiate between probability and possibility. The word possibly is derived from the Latin word ‘possibilitas’ which means able to be done. Probability also describes something that might occur, the chance that something might happen. Probability thinking is considering the likelihood of something happening from past evidence. When we look into our past to generate certainty for the future, we set ourselves up to fail. The past repeats, and nothing changes. Possibility thinking is considering the likelihood of something happening in the uncertain future. This requires imagination and the willingness to embrace uncertainty. To shift from probability to possibility, all you need is to shift from one word: ‘I can’t’ to ‘I could’. Probability is usually measured by the ratio of the favorable cases to the whole number of cases that are possible.
