 1. Differentiate between probability and possibility. The word possibly is derived from the Latin word ‘possibilitas’ which means able to be done. Probability also describes something that might occur, the chance that something might happen. Probability thinking is considering the likelihood of something happening from past evidence. When we look into our past to generate certainty for the future, we set ourselves up to fail. The past repeats, and nothing changes. Possibility thinking is considering the likelihood of something happening in the uncertain future. This requires imagination and the willingness to embrace uncertainty. To shift from probability to possibility, all you need is to shift from one word: ‘I can’t’ to ‘I could’. Probability is usually measured by the ratio of the favorable cases to the whole number of cases that are possible. The one big difference between the two words is that while possibility is the universal set, probability is the subset. Possibility is sure

Imitation and Gender Insubordination- 1991

The purpose of Butler's essay, in her view, is to resist homophobic normative oppression by rethinking gender and sexuality. Emphasize that identity categories are tools of oppressive regulatory systems. Butler opposes an essentialist approach of adapting sexuality to a clear definition, because the definition does not take into account all the complexities and pluralities within a particular group. She wonders if there is a right way to be gay and argues that saying so would discriminate against homosexuals who don't fit that image. Instead, it suggests that the sexuality is fluid and unclear, and also implies that this is what makes it intriguing. How do you “be” what you already are? Is there an act that you have to stage to play the role of a man or a woman? How about a straight man versus a gay man, or a lesbian versus a straight woman? In the essay, “Imitation and Gender Insubordination,” these are the questions she seems to be asking. Butler's main arguments in thi

The Miniature Guide To Critical Thinking

The main purpose of this guide is to bring out the concepts of critical thinking and how it is or how it can be applied in our daily lives. Through critical thinking, one can develop the elements of purpose, questioning, information, interpretation, concepts, assumptions, implications and consequences, and point of view.   Basically, critical thinking means being self-directed, self-disciplined, self- monitored, and self-corrective thinking. And to achieve this it takes a lot of standards to come to the point where we put this in use. Critical thinking involves effective communication and problem-solving abilities and an obligation to overcome our innate self-centeredness and sociocentrism. The key question that is being questioned is about critical thinking, elements of thought, checklist for reasoning, question guide for the element of thought, problems of egocentric thinking, universal intellectual standards, Template for analyzing the logic of articles and textbooks, criterial

Mulvey is greatly known for her theory on the subject, sexual objectification on women in the field of media. It was more commonly known as The Male Gaze theory. Being one of the most renowned film theorists in the world, her views and clear proof of misogyny in film opened up the eyes of many. Mulvey's theory on the male gaze helped identify issues with gender in the film industry. Mulvey's theory simply means that the male viewer is the target audience, therefore their needs pleasure are met first, which is basically known as visual pleasure. The essay is based on how women are portrayed in film and the media which is still prevalent and dominated in today's world. This idea brings in the thought of "men do the looking, and women are to be looked at." It is also where women in the media are viewed from the eyes of a man, and that women are represent
