Ease of Living Index (EoLI)
The Ease of Living Index (EoLI) is an assessment tool by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs that evaluates the quality of life and the impact of various initiatives for urban development in the city. It basically gives the knowledge on quality of life, the economic ability of the city, and its sustainability. There is also a survey held to prove this assessment through which the cities are ranked accordingly. The EoLI is being divided into two categories: Million+ populated cities and Less than a million populated cities. According to the survey of 2020, the Bengaluru city was at its top performer in the category of "million+" followed by Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Surat, Navi Mumbai, Coimbatore, Vadodara, Indore, and Greater Mumbai respectively. Shimla was ranked the highest in the category of "less than a million" followed by Bhubaneshwar, Silvassa, Kakinada, Salem, Vellore, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Davabgere, and Tiruchirappalli.
